The Reggia di Caserta In 1750 Charles of Bourbon, King of the Two Sicilies, bought from the heirs of the family Acquaviva lying at the foot of Monti Tifatini, where he found a small village and a pyramidal tower. The cost was 489, 343 ducats, but the expenditure was deemed necessary for the realization of a project that has long caressed the sovereign, namely the military and administrative reorganization of the kingdom. One initiative that did not want simply to build a palace that compete with that of Versailles, but that was aimed to give the kingdom a new capital, far from the sea and the threats that could come from this. For this project so ambitious and costly, it was necessary to hire an architect to the task. The Royal Palace of Caserta was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli, instructed by Charles III of Bourbon, to make a monumental building.
